Choosing the right early childhood program is one of the most meaningful decisions a family can make. Parents want a warm, safe environment where their children can grow socially, emotionally, and academically—while also feeling connected to a supportive community. That’s exactly what families find at the Mandel JCC preschool. Designed to meet children where they are at every stage of early development, these programs blend learning, play, Jewish values, and community into an experience that supports both children and parents.

From infants just beginning to explore the world to preschoolers preparing for kindergarten, the Mandel JCC’s Early Childhood Learning Center provides thoughtful programming that helps children thrive during their most formative years.

What Is the Early Childhood Learning Center at JCC?

The Early Childhood Learning Center at the Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches is more than a school—it’s a nurturing environment built around curiosity, connection, and confidence. Rooted in a play-based, developmentally appropriate approach, the center focuses on the whole child, supporting cognitive growth alongside social-emotional development.

The JCC preschool programs are led by experienced educators who understand how young children learn best. Classrooms are designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and independence, while daily routines help children feel secure and supported. Jewish values such as kindness, respect, and community are gently woven into the experience, making the program welcoming and meaningful for families from a variety of backgrounds.

Our Early Childhood Learning Programs

The Infant/Toddler Program (Ages 3–11 Months)

For the youngest learners, the Infant/Toddler program provides a calm, loving environment that supports early development and bonding. At this stage, children are learning to trust, observe, and respond to the world around them.

At the JCC preschool, infant care focuses on sensory exploration, movement, music, and early communication. Teachers work closely with families to understand each child’s routines and needs, creating consistency between home and school. The result is a gentle introduction to group learning that supports physical milestones, emotional security, and early social interaction.

The Infant/Toddler Program (Ages 12–23 Months)

As toddlers become more mobile and curious, the program evolves to meet their growing independence. Children in this age group are encouraged to explore, experiment, and express themselves within a structured, supportive environment.

Through age-appropriate activities such as art, music, storytelling, and free play, the JCC preschool toddler program helps children develop language skills, fine and gross motor coordination, and early problem-solving abilities. Teachers guide children through social experiences like sharing and cooperation, helping them build confidence as they navigate new relationships.

Preschool (Threes)

The Preschool program for three-year-olds is all about discovery. At this stage, children are eager to ask questions, form friendships, and understand how the world works.

In the JCC preschool, learning is hands-on and engaging. Children participate in group activities that promote early literacy, math concepts, and creative expression, all while developing important social skills. The classroom environment encourages independence and self-expression, helping children feel proud of what they can accomplish on their own.

VPK (4-Year-Olds)

The Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program is designed to prepare children for a successful transition to kindergarten and beyond. This program balances academic readiness with play, ensuring children are confident learners who love coming to school.

The JCC preschool VPK program focuses on early reading and writing skills, number recognition, critical thinking, and collaboration. Teachers also emphasize emotional regulation and classroom routines, helping children build the skills they need to succeed in a more structured school setting.

Preschool Enrichments

Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Preschool Enrichment programs offer children the opportunity to explore additional interests and talents in a fun, low-pressure environment.

JCC preschool enrichment programs may include art, music, movement, science exploration, and cultural experiences. Enrichments help children discover new passions, build confidence, and enjoy learning in a variety of formats—all while enhancing their overall preschool experience.

JParent

Early childhood education isn’t just about the children—it’s also about supporting families. JParent is a unique offering for parents of children in second grade and younger, creating opportunities for connection, learning, and community.

Through social events, engaging workshops, and meaningful conversations, JParent allows parents to build relationships with one another while navigating the joys and challenges of raising young children. This extension of the JCC preschool community strengthens the sense of belonging that makes the Mandel JCC such a special place for families.

The Core Elements of the Early Childhood Learning Center

The Early Childhood Learning Center at the Mandel JCC is guided by a set of core principles that shape how children learn, how families are engaged, and how educators lead. These elements are woven into the daily experience of the JCC’s early childhood program, creating a supportive, intentional learning environment.

Children as Constructivist Learners

Children are encouraged to build their own understanding of the world through curiosity and exploration. Learning is project-based and inspired by children’s interests, allowing them to integrate literacy, math, science, social studies, and physical development in meaningful, age-appropriate ways. Cognitive, social, emotional, language, and physical skills are developed naturally through these everyday experiences.

Families as Engaged Partners

Families are viewed as essential partners in the learning process. Ongoing, supportive communication keeps parents informed about their child’s development, while opportunities to celebrate Jewish life and participate in adult learning help strengthen family connections and community involvement.

Thoughtfully Designed Learning Environments

Classrooms are intentionally designed to reflect the children and families who use them, fostering a sense of belonging. Flexible spaces, open-ended materials, and elements of the natural world encourage creativity, exploration, and inquiry. Both indoor and outdoor environments support community building and opportunities for Jewish living.

Directors as Visionaries

Leadership at the Early Childhood Learning Center is rooted in Jewish values and collaboration. Directors work closely with families, educators, and community leaders to ensure the program aligns with the mission of the JCC, while also prioritizing professional growth and shared learning among faculty.

Teachers as Professionals

Educators are respected as dedicated professionals who engage in ongoing collaboration, mentoring, and professional development. Teachers meet and exceed state and accrediting standards while continually striving to elevate the learning experience for every child.

A Commitment to Health and Wellness Through CATCH

The Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) promotes physical activity and healthy habits through inclusive, movement-based play. Activities focus on motor skill development, strength, flexibility, and endurance, with a no-elimination philosophy that keeps all children active and engaged.

Israeli Engagement

Israeli culture is woven into daily learning through music, dance, language, customs, and traditions. These experiences help children form joyful, age-appropriate connections that create meaningful and lasting impressions.
