MANDEL JCC’S 21st ANNUAL JEWISH BOOK FESTIVAL TO FEATURE 17 EXCITING AUTHOR EVENTS
Kicks off season with Signature Book Luncheon Nov. 11
PALM BEACH GARDENS (October 12, 2015) – The Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches has become recognized for creating one of the area’s most prominent cultural events: its Annual Book Festival, which runs November 2015 through April 2016, featuring 17 stimulating, heart-warming and entertaining authors at venues ranging from the elegant Kravis Center to country clubs and private homes. Highlights for this year’s festival include novels ranging from inspirational memoirs to romance tales and moving Holocaust survivor stories. The 2015-2016 Book Festival is co-chaired by Nancy Sims and Lois Steinberg for the Mandel JCC Palm Beach Gardens events and Cathy Einhorn for the Mandel JCC Boynton Beach events.
$20,000 RAISED AT “GIVE WITH YOUR HEART” COMMUNITY RECEPTION FOR MANDEL JCC SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (April 6, 2015) – Nearly 100 guests attended the Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches’ “Give With Your Heart” community reception for the Connie and David Blacher Special Needs Program on March 31, 2015, which raised $20,000. The special needs program, widely recognized among the top in Palm Beach County, is offered at the JCC’s Boynton Beach and Palm Beach Gardens locations. Helene and Bill Pittler hosted the reception.
EXPERIENCE ELLIS ISLAND THROUGH THE EYES OF ARTIST PHILLIP RATNER
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (February XX, 2015) – The Mandel JCC, Palm Beach Gardens will present the works of Phillip Ratner in the art exhibition, Becoming Americans: Images of Ellis Island. Opening on March 2, 2015 with a reception that is free and open to the public, Ratner will speak at 6:00 p.m. The exhibit runs through April 10, 2015 in the Lyons Art Gallery and is free. The exhibition is sponsored by Fred and Iris Burke.
MANDEL JCC OF THE PALM BEACHES HOSTS COMMUNITY PURIM FESTIVAL
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (February 24, 2015) – The Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches is teaming up with Temple Beth David, Temple Judea, Arthur I. Meyer Jewish Academy and The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County to host a free community wide Purim Festival on Friday, March 6, 2015. The carnival will kick off with a preview party for preschool age children (up to five years old) at 2:30 p.m., with the free and public carnival beginning at 3:45 p.m. A community Kabbalat Shabbat will start at 5:30 p.m.
DAUGHTER OF IRAQI IMMIGRANT PRESENTS DEBUT NOVEL IN LAKE WORTH AND PALM BEACH GARDENS
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (February XX, 2015) – The 2014-2015 Mandel JCC Annual Book Festival will host author Jessica Soffer, the daughter of an Iraqi immigrant, on March 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Atlantis Country Club in Lake Worth, chaired by Carole Geller and on March 4, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Frenchman’s Creek in Palm Beach Gardens, chaired by Tootsie Eisenberg and Beryl Schneider. Soffer will present her first novel Tomorrow There Will Be Apricots.
MANDEL JCC OF THE PALM BEACHES HIRES TWO EMPLOYEES FOR POPULAR SUMMER DAY CAMP
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (February 24, 2015) – The Mandel JCC, Palm Beach Gardens children’s department is ready for summer with the addition of two staff for Camp Shalom, the JCC’s summer day camp that has been popular with children for 50 years. More than 300 Children attend each summer.
MANDEL JCC, PALM BEACH GARDENS PRESENTS FIRST EVER MEMBER, GROUP ART EXHIBITION
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (February 18, 2015) – Presenting its first ever group art exhibition, the Mandel JCC, Palm Beach Gardens will open Inaugural JCC Members’ Art Exhibition, from April 14, 2015 to May 22, 2015 in the Lyons Art Gallery. The exhibition, which will feature artwork submitted by Mandel JCC members, opens April 14, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. with a reception. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
HOWL AT THE MOON’S DUELING PIANO SHOW COMING TO MANDEL JCC OF THE PALM BEACHES
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (February 17, 2015) - The Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches will host Howl at the Moon’s lively dueling piano show during its premiere event, “Saturday Night @ the J,” on April 25, 2015. The event, to be held at the JCC’s Palm Beach Gardens location, will celebrate camp fanatics, Camp Shalom adult alumni and 50 years of Camp Shalom, the JCC’s leading summer day camp. Patti and Tony Lampert and Lissa and Benjamin Schwab will serve as co-chairs.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN’S IMAGE, INFLUENCE, AND REPUTATION AMONG AMERCAN JEWS TO BE DISCUSSED DURING JCC BOOK FESTIVAL EVENT
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (January XX, 2014) – The 2014-2015 Mandel JCC Annual Book Festival will host author Dr. Gary Phillip Zola, to present the impact of Abraham Lincoln on American Jews, on February 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mandel JCC, Palm Beach Gardens. Zola will discuss his book, We Called Him Rabbi Abraham: Lincoln and American Jewry, the first volume of annotated documents to focus on the history of Lincoln’s image, influence and reputation among American Jews.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (January 8, 2015) – The 2014-2015 Mandel JCC Annual Book Festival will host Dr. Andrew D. Kaufman, an internationally recognized Tolstoy scholar, on January 14, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mandel JCC, Palm Beach Gardens. Kaufman will discuss his book Give War and Peace a Chance: Tolstoyan Wisdom for Troubled Times, his version of the original novel War and Peace first published by Russian novelist and philosopher Leo Tolstoy in 1869. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by The Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank.
