MANDEL JCC TO HOST TWO COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS FOR HANUKKAH, LOCATIONS IN BOYNTON BEACH & PALM BEACH GARDENS

BOYNTON BEACH AND PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA. (October 22, 2013)
– Continuing a popular annual tradition that welcomes thousands each year to light the Hanukkah menorah, the Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches will host two community Hanukkah Candle Lighting events on December 1, 2013. The first one will be held at Canyon Town Center Amphitheater in Boynton Beach from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a second at Downtown at the Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens from 4 to 6 p.m.  The events are free and open to the public.

WEEK-LONG COMMUNITY CELEBRATION PLANNED FOR OPENING OF MANDEL JCC PALM BEACH GARDENS

BOYNTON BEACH AND PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA. (October 18, 2013)
– The Mandel JCC Palm Beach Gardens invites the community to attend a spectacular week-long event that’s five years in the making: after years of preparation and construction, the Mandel JCC Palm Beach Gardens will celebrate with a week-long Grand Opening Celebration from November 10, 2013 to November 16, 2013 at the expansive new 16-acre campus at 5221 Hood Road. The week will kick off with a festive community celebration on Sunday, November 10, 2013, followed by a week-long program showcase and conclude with an elegant gala.

MANDEL JCC PALM BEACH GARDENS DEBUTS ACADEMY OF CONTINUING EDUCATION WITH OPEN HOUSE ON OCT. 10

PALM BEACH GARDENS (October, 2013)
– The Mandel JCC in Palm Beach Gardens is hosting an open house for its new Academy of Continuing Education on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at 7 p.m. The open house will celebrate the debut of the Academy and provide guests with an exclusive first look at what classes the program offers. Fall classes begin Oct. 22, 2013 and are held at the Mandel JCC on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 19, 2013.

PALM BEACH GARDENS (October, 2013)
– The Mandel JCC in Palm Beach Gardens is launching its new Academy of Continuing Education (ACE) this month featuring dozens of exciting classes, including two lectures during its first week by local city mayors. Palm Beach Mayor Gail Coniglio will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio will present on Thursday Oct. 24, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

NEW MANDEL JCC IN PALM BEACH GARDENS DEBUTS HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAM

PALM BEACH GARDENS (September 30, 2013)
– The state-of-the-art Mandel JCC, which opened in late August, has introduced an extensive health and wellness program with more than 100 classes available each week. The community center offers group fitness classes, personal training, small group training, large-scale and specialty wellness programs, and healthy living lectures for adolescents to seniors.

MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE JOIN FOR RIBBON CUTTING TO CELEBRATE THE NEW MANDEL JCC PALM BEACH GARDENS

PALM BEACH GARDENS (September 11, 2013)
– After nearly five years of planning and just 10 months after breaking ground, the Mandel JCC – one of Palm Beach Gardens’ largest recent projects at $20 million and 16 acres – has opened its doors to the community. More than 100 people celebrated the opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Major benefactors Mr. and Mrs. Morton Mandel were in attendance.

ELLEN WEDNER NAMED NEW DIRECTOR OF THE PALM BEACH JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL

PALM BEACH GARDENS (September, 2013)
– Ellen Wedner, a veteran event planner and television producer with more than 35 years of experience, has been named Director of the renowned Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival, one of the largest Jewish film festivals in Florida. Held annually, the 2013 festival featured 39 films, documentaries and shorts viewed by more than 13,000 throughout Palm Beach County. Wedner, who has been a fixture in the South Florida arts and non-profit community for more than 20 years, will oversee the 24th Annual Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival planned for January 16-26, 2014.  A complete list of films, locations and ticket information will be announced in the fall.

NATIONAL BRIDGE CHAMPION MARTY BERGEN HOSTS SEMINAR TO KICK OFF MANDEL JCC’S EXPANDED BRIDGE PROGRAM

PALM BEACH GARDENS (September, 2013)
– The new Mandel JCC in Palm Beach Gardens has expanded its popular Stayman Memorial Bridge Program, featuring new teachers, classes, workshops and weekly supervised play sessions. Bridge players of all skill levels are invited to the program’s kick-off seminar celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. to be hosted by 10-time national champion Marty Bergen.

– With a brand-new, expansive 56,000-sq.-ft. facility on 15 acres, the Mandel JCC Palm Beach Gardens will offer a vast array of children’s programs for babies through eighth grade starting Fall 2013. Most classes start the first or second week of September and run through late November.

– During the past 19 years, the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches has become recognized for creating one of the area’s most prominent cultural events: its Annual Book Festival, which hosts stimulating, heart-warming and entertaining authors at venues ranging from the elegant Kravis Center to gorgeous private homes. Last year, the 18th Annual Book Festival welcomed thousands with a passion for learning through impactful storytelling, two cornerstones of Jewish culture. This year’s festival, co-chaired by Phyllis Hoffman and N. Deborah Stapler, is destined to be one of the best yet.

PALM BEACH GARDENS (August 14, 2013)
– The 19th Annual Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches Book Festival kicks off with an expansive Breast Cancer Awareness event on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Mandel JCC Palm Beach Gardens. The event features author, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, who wrote How to be a Friend to a Friend Who’s Sick, as well as a dynamic medical panel. The event, held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is in partnership with Jupiter Medical Center.

PALM BEACH GARDENS (August 02, 2013) – To reflect the ongoing commitment of the Mandel Foundation, the corporate name of the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches has renamed the Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches. The nonprofit agency has two locations, Mandel JCC Palm Beach Gardens and Mandel JCC, The Lore & Eric F. Ross Building, Boynton Beach.

JCC CAMP SHALOM RECEIVES $4,000 DONATION FROM PYTHIAN YOUTH FOUNDATION FOR CAMP TIKVAH, SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM

PALM BEACH GARDENS (July, 2013) – Camp Tikvah, the special needs program at the JCC of the Greater Palm Beach’s Camp Shalom, received a $4,000 donation from the Pythian Youth Foundation, Inc. (PYF). The foundation is the charitable arm of the Knights of Pythias of Florida, an international fraternal organization. This is the tenth consecutive year the KOP has contributed to Camp Tikvah, bringing its total donation to $33,000.

PREPARE FOR THE JEWISH NEW YEAR AT A SWEET ‘SPOONFUL OF HONEY’ TASTING EVENT WITH THE MANDEL JCC, AUG. 18 AT TUNIE’S

PALM BEACH GARDENS (July, 2013) – To prepare for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, the Mandel JCC in Palm Beach Gardens is partnering with Tunie’s Natural Grocery & Vitamin Market in Palm Beach Gardens to host a ‘Spoonful of Honey’ gourmet honey sampling. Sweet honey is a tradition in the Jewish culture, with many dipping challah and apples in the sweet treat as they ask God for a good and sweet New Year. The tasty event will be held August 18, 2013 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Tunie’s, located at 7170 Fairway Drive.

BERYL & ROBERT SCHNEIDER DONATE $2 MILLION TO CONSTRUCT GYMNASIUM AT MANDEL JCC IN PALM BEACH GARDENS 

PALM BEACH GARDENS (May 10, 2013) – During the annual Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival, run by the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches, Beryl and Robert (Bob) Schneider immediately recognized how they could make a powerful impact in the community. They stopped at a Mandel JCC information booth in the theatre lobby and became eager to learn more about this center that would provide programs and services to all ages. Just one day later, after intensive talks with the JCC and touring the construction site, the couple donated $2 million to the Mandel JCC, scheduled to open August 2013 at 5221 Hood Road. The gymnasium will be named in their honor.

JCC OF THE GREATER PALM BEACHES ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH UNITED JEWISH FAMILIES, ESTABLISHES NEW COMMITTEE 

PALM BEACH GARDENS (May 6, 2013) – United Jewish Families, a nonprofit serving families in central Palm Beach County, announced it will become a committee of the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches. The organization was formed approximately three years ago to better meet the needs of Jewish families in the central corridor, which encompasses the greater West Palm Beach area, following the JCC relocating to Palm Beach Gardens as it planned for the Mandel JCC, opening 2013.

TWO DOZEN LOCALS JOIN JCC FOR UNFORGETTABLE TRIP TO CUBA 

PALM BEACH GARDENS (March 20, 2013) – Earlier this year, two dozen participants joined the JCC for a week-long inspirational and educational trip to Cuba. The trip this year, which was filled to capacity, also included JCC development director, Carolyn Rose, and travel associate, Eileen Shapiro, along with Rabbi Howard Shapiro, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Israel.
