19TH ANNUAL JEWISH BOOK FESTIVAL FEATURES 16 DYNAMIC AUTHOR EVENTS THAT CELEBRATE LIFE, LOVE, AND JEWISH CULTURE

PALM BEACH GARDENS (August 14, 2013) – During the past 19 years, the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches has become recognized for creating one of the area’s most prominent cultural events: its Annual Book Festival, which hosts stimulating, heart-warming and entertaining authors at venues ranging from the elegant Kravis Center to gorgeous private homes. Last year, the 18th Annual Book Festival welcomed thousands with a passion for learning through impactful storytelling, two cornerstones of Jewish culture. This year’s festival, co-chaired by Phyllis Hoffman and N. Deborah Stapler, is destined to be one of the best yet.

“We have a spectacular lineup of celebrated authors for the 2013-2014 JCC Book Festival that we are confident the community will enjoy,” commented N. Deborah Stapler, co-chair of the Book Festival Committee.

The 19th Annual Book Festival, which runs from October 2013 to March 2014, will include 16 author events on a broad range of topics from love, health and sisterhood to comedy and more.

The Festival kicks off with an expansive Breast Cancer Awareness event on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Mandel JCC. The event features author Letty Cottin Pogrebin, who wrote How to be a Friend to a Friend Who’s Sick and co-founded Ms. Magazine with Gloria Steinem.  The author penned the book after she noticed during her recent bout with breast cancer that many of her closest friends and family didn’t know what to say; so she spoke to fellow patients and dozens who have battled serious illness to learn what sick people  wished those closest could say or do to best comfort them. The event is being held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in partnership with Jupiter Medical Center, and will also feature an impressive medical panel to discuss subjects from genetic testing for the BRCA mutations to reconstructive surgery.

The festival also features the Signature Book Luncheon, this year with Leslie Maitland, author and former award-winning investigative reporter for the New York Times, on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.  The co-chairs of the 2013 Book Luncheon are Edie Broida and Carol Pressler. The Honorary Chair for the Book Luncheon is Zelda Mason.
