Welcome to the Fall 2014 session of the
Mandel JCC, Boynton Beach Academy of Continuing Education
As always, we wish to express our gratitude to our volunteer faculty and volunteer monitors who efforts are noticed and appreciated daily in our program. These dedicated diligent presenters allow ACE to become a highlight in the community for all to attend and enjoy. We also thank our program sponsor Solkoff Legal P.A. for their commitment to programming of outstanding adult education programs. New community sponsor, Allegro, Inspired Senior Living joins the family of supporters. The fall 2014 season is forecast to be one of the best. Our ‘Cultural Arts Fridays’ series with alternating weeks of movies and great opera performances has drawn large audiences for its variety and range of entertaining feature presentations. ‘Live from ACE’ returns with in person interviews with noted local guests, including Palm Beach County State Attorney General, Dave Aronberg. Rabbi Barry Silver’s monthly series on controversial Jewish issues returns, as does Men, Let’s Talk discussion group, enrichment, and relationship discussion. Art classes that were requested by members are plentiful and attention-grabbing. For our history buffs, new classes of interest are scheduled including the return of Donald Lapinsohn on the Treaty of Versailles--Pathway to the Holocaust and Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean (yes they were present!) and Fred Lehrer’s perspectives on Churchill, Lincoln, Custer and the Manhattan Project. Fans of current events, global, and local news will find a surplus of choices including three new classes with that focus. Two young professional psychologist and mental health educators join the ACE faculty presenting classes on relationships and taking charge of your life. The Live from the 92nd Street series will return with some interesting conversations from New York via satellite. All in all this season is shaping up to be one you won’t want to miss. In the works, drama, performance, music will be enhanced during this ACE season. Join us and tell your friends.
Someone asked recently: “What is the typical ACE member, and why do they come to classes?” After a short moment, the reply came swiftly. ACE members attend classes for enrichment and entertainment. Many love to meet their friends and neighbors daily and share the class experience as well as the socialization. New community members find the comfort in their surroundings here in the ACE program. ACE has a welcoming nature, inviting all to enjoy. The interactive classes allow for dialogues and discussions that stimulate and engage. It is created to be a family atmosphere. In summary, ACE enhances one’s life and extends an invitation to all to become members of the Mandel JCC and our program.
The new season will commence with the annual ACE Open House on Wednesday October 8 at 1:30 PM. We invite all community and current ACE members to join us for refreshments, meeting, greeting the faculty and a sample program. See below for more information.
